As the emergency rule declared in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States expires this week, President Goodluck Jonathan will approach the National Assembly to seek an extension as the military continues to battle the terrorist group, Boko Haram.
The National Defence Council, which the President chairs met Monday at the Presidential villa where the council reviewed the security situation in the states and agreed to seek an extension.
At the meeting were heads of the Nigerian armed forces including the National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki; Minister of Defence, retired General Aliyu Gusau; and the Attorney General and Justice Minister, Mr. Mohammed Adoke.
Adoke, who briefed state house correspondents at the end of the closed-door meeting, said a formal request would be sent to the National Assembly “immediately” to request an extension.
