July 24, (THEWILL) — Troops of the Nigerian military have neutralised a senior Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, identified as Ibn Khalid, along with his cameraman, during an attack on Bita community in Borno State.
Theatre Commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, disclosed in a statement that the terrorist leader was killed in a fierce gun battle around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday when insurgents launched an assault on the community.
General Abubakar also revealed that 17 other terrorists were eliminated in separate operations across parts of the Sambisa Forest, spanning Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State and Kaga in Borno State.
“An unspecified number of the terrorists escaped with varying degrees of injuries. While pursuing them as they retreated, troops observed blood trails along the withdrawal routes,” the statement said.
Recovered items from the operation include two AK-47 magazines, 7.62mm special ammunition, a PKT ammunition belt, a rocket-propelled grenade bomb, and a camcorder used by the group’s media unit.
