BEVERLY HILLS, October 28, (THEWILL) – A fresh Boko Haram invasion of a Borno village, Monday, has claimed the lives of three persons.
When the insurgents stormed the village, Kukawa, they set ablaze many public buildings, including the headquarters of Kukawa Local Government Area, a police station, Government Lodge, among others, killing the three residents in the process.
Narrating the experience on Tuesday, a resident of the town, Mallam Kaka Kukawa, disclosed to THEWILL that the gunmen arrived the town in several Hilux vehicles and motorcycles as they headed straight to attack the police station with Rocket Propelled Grenade, shooting sporadically to announce their arrival.
According to him, “The insurgents razed down the Kukawa Divisional Police station and some public buildings in the town,” adding “I cannot tell the casualty figure because we had to flee the town in fear of our lives.”
His disclosure came as another resident of the town, Modu Mohammed, said the residents of the village had to flee the town when the insurgents struck.
According to Mohammed, many houses and other public buildings, including a clinic and vehicles of the company exploring oil in the Chad Basin.
The insurgents who stormed the village at about 4:00 am were said to have had a field day till about 10pm when they left after they were satisfied with the destruction .
According to him, “The attack was a reprisal to an earlier attempt by the men of the Nigerian Police who were on routine patrol in the area who opened fire on the insurgents who were able to kill two policemen and they lost an unverified number of people.”
The caretaker chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area, Alhaji Modu Musa, confirmed the incident, saying the insurgents stormed the village, killing many people as they set the village on fire and destroyed over 300 vehicles.
Efforts to further confirm the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jibrin, proved abortive as his phone was switched off while filing this report.
