February 14, (THEWILL) – Golf icon, Tiger Woods will return to PGA Tour action at the 2024 Genesis Invitational, being held at the iconic Riviera Country Club. Woods has been grouped with fellow major champions, Justin Thomas and Gary Woodland for the opening two rounds on Thursday and Friday.
Woods last competed on the PGA Tour back in April 2023, at the Masters Tournament. He cut Augusta but withdrew during the third round due to an ankle injury which later required surgery. Woods returned to golf at the end of November in the unofficial Hero World Challenge event. He finished at 1-under par in a tie for 45th place.
The 15-time major winner will be debuting apparel from his new “Sun Day Red” clothing brand this week in Los Angeles. Woods is also serving as the tournament host for the Genesis Invitational, one of eight PGA Tour Signature Events this year featuring a $20 million purse and $4 million pay-out to the winner.
Woods has not had much success at Riviera over his career, going just 1-under par last year to finish tied for 45th once again. Yet, the golf world is buzzing with excitement to have one of the all-time greats back playing competitive golf.
After the Genesis, Woods’ schedule remains unclear. Still, a healthy Tiger playing at all is a major win for the PGA Tour and golf fans alike.
