November 10, (THEWILL) – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasised the crucial role of education as a catalyst for national progress, asserting that it must be responsive and transformative to accelerate Nigeria’s development.
Tinubu’s message was conveyed during the 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, over the weekend.
Represented by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, the President acknowledged the daunting challenges facing Nigeria and assured that his administration remains committed to tackling them, with a particular focus on mitigating impacts on vulnerable populations.
Tinubu also congratulated Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who received a Doctorate Degree in Public Administration during the convocation.
The governor dedicated the achievement to his late wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, sharing that her support and encouragement had propelled him on his academic journey, even until her final days.
Reflecting on his accomplishment, the governor described earning a Ph.D. as a testament to perseverance and faith, attributing his life’s journey to grace and the unyielding belief in God’s plans.
He reiterated his commitment to a people-focused administration under the ARISE Agenda, which encompasses initiatives like free food vouchers, compassionate homes, primary health centers, elderly care programs, ambulance services, free education, and grants for students.
Eno commended Tinubu for his economic vision and encouraged support for his Federal Government, expressing confidence in its policies despite current challenges.
He also acknowledged the contributions of key figures at UniUyo, including the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, the University Chancellor, Emir of Hadejia, His Highness Alhaji Adamu Maje, and Pro-Chancellor Professor Zubairu Abdallah.
He thanked his supervisor, Professor Basil Onouha, for his dedication and encouragement, as well as other lecturers for their support.
The governor urged the graduating students to uphold the values of the institution as ambassadors of UniUyo and pledged his dedication to good governance.
