April 22, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has approved a new set of strategic appointments and tenure renewals across key education and knowledge institutions, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to strengthening governance, continuity, and reform in the sector.
The decisions, announced on Wednesday, in a statement issued by the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, affect the National Examinations Council (NECO), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam, and the National Library of Nigeria.
At NECO, the President appointed Modupe Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board, a move expected to provide strengthened oversight and policy direction for the national examination body. He also retained the Registrar, Ibrahim Wushishi, ensuring administrative continuity and stability in the conduct of examinations nationwide.
For the NBTE, President Tinubu named Babatunde Salako as Chairman, reinforcing leadership at the apex regulatory body for technical and vocational education. The appointment complements the earlier reappointment of the Executive Secretary, Idris Bugaje, who is serving a second and final five-year term, thereby sustaining ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s technical education system.
In Plateau State, Bongfa Binfa was appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam for a single five-year tenure following a transparent and competitive selection process. He succeeds Mukaila Ya’u, whose tenure ended on March 16. Binfa brings to the role extensive academic and administrative experience, having served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Idah.
Meanwhile, the President renewed the tenure of Chinwe Anunobi as Director-General and Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. Since her initial appointment in September 2021, Anunobi has led significant reforms aimed at repositioning the institution as a modern, technology-driven knowledge hub.
Her administration has driven initiatives such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library, expanding digital access to information and strengthening the country’s knowledge infrastructure. The Presidency noted that her reappointment would ensure continuity of these reforms and support the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
Onanuga said the appointments highlight the Tinubu administration’s focus on institutional stability, merit-based leadership, and sustained reform across Nigeria’s education and knowledge sectors, with expectations of improved service delivery and enhanced capacity development nationwide.
