January 08, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, one of the twin sons of renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
THEWILL reports that Nkanu Nnamdi passed away on Wednesday, January 7, following a brief illness.
In a statement he personally signed on Thursday, President Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to Chimamanda, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family.
He described the loss of a child as one of the most devastating experiences any parent could endure, noting that he personally understands the depth of such grief.
“With a deep sense of grief, I condole with Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.
“As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child. I empathise with the family at this difficult time, and I mourn this sad loss with them”, Tinubu said.
The President also paid tribute to Adichie’s global impact as a literary icon, acknowledging the joy and inspiration her works have brought to countless homes around the world.
“Ms Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes globally, and I pray she and her family find strength in the Almighty in this trying hour”, he added.
President Tinubu assured the bereaved family of his prayers and solidarity as they navigate the period of mourning.
