March 31, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to ramp up operations against perpetrators of recent attacks in Plateau and Kaduna States, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to safeguard lives and restore peace across affected communities.
The President’s directive follows coordinated attacks by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State, where over 30 residents were killed, as well as a separate assault in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, which left 13 wedding guests dead and several others abducted.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President strongly condemned the incidents, describing them as “an affront to all that Nigeria stands for.”
Tinubu assured Nigerians that those behind the attacks would be brought to justice, stressing that the government is taking decisive steps to prevent a recurrence.
“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward. By attacking soft targets, their objective is not only to cause harm but also to trigger reprisal attacks and further bloodletting,” the President said.
In a proactive move aimed at curbing further violence, Tinubu ordered security agencies to intensify intelligence-driven operations to track down perpetrators and dismantle criminal networks.
He also warned against the spread of misinformation capable of escalating tensions, particularly narratives suggesting religious motivations for the attacks.
Reassuring citizens of ongoing efforts, the President disclosed that security agencies are actively responding to the situation, with additional measures being implemented to enhance real-time surveillance and rapid intervention capabilities.
He emphasised the importance of public cooperation, urging residents in affected areas to adhere to security advisories, including evacuation and relocation directives where necessary, to ensure their safety.
Highlighting progress in rescue efforts, Tinubu welcomed the safe return of two abducted victims in Kaduna and called for intensified action to secure the release of all remaining captives.
“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive by acting on early warning intelligence. All the remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately,” he added.
The President also commended the efforts of Caleb Mutfwang and Uba Sani for their swift response and coordination with security agencies to contain the crisis and support rescue operations.
Reiterating federal support, Tinubu pledged continued collaboration with state governments to strengthen security architecture and prevent further attacks.
He further disclosed that the government is acquiring advanced security equipment to enhance the capacity of security forces to track and neutralise criminal elements in real time.
While commiserating with the families of the victims, the President expressed optimism that ongoing interventions will restore calm and reinforce national unity.
“I assure the people and governments of Plateau and Kaduna States of my full support. We will not relent until peace is fully restored and justice is served,” he stated.
