June 10, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja, the nation’s capital, after attending the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and spending the Eid-el-Kabir holiday in Lagos.
President Tinubu departed Abuja on May 27 for the regional bloc’s golden jubilee event and the Commissioning of projects in Lagos.
He left Lagos on Tuesday and was accompanied to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other government officials.
Upon arrival in Abuja, the President, who arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, was received by senior government officials.
While in Lagos, President Tinubu affirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to ECOWAS, emphasising the country’s historic and continuing role in shaping West Africa’s path to peace, integration, and shared prosperity.
Reminiscing on ECOWAS’ founding, President Tinubu, who also doubles as ECOWAS Chairman, paid glowing tribute to Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, the only surviving leader among the original signatories of the ECOWAS Treaty.
The President highlighted Nigeria’s consistent contributions, particularly through initiatives like the Technical Aid Corps, which has deployed skilled professionals to serve in various ECOWAS member states for nearly 40 years.
President Tinubu also received dignitaries in his residence during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and commissioned some projects, among other activities.
The President commissioned the first phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and several other strategic road infrastructure projects across Nigeria, reiterating his administration’s commitment to local content, technology transfer, and national development.
The President also issued a strong warning to real estate developers, stating that the Federal Government will no longer compensate structures built without approval or outside designated setbacks.
