May 06, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur kept their Europa League hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, thanks to Harry Kane’s header in the first half. Kane’s 28th goal of the season in all competitions also helped him overtake Wayne Rooney and move into second place on the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer list.

The win, which marked Ryan Mason’s first victory in his second spell in charge of Spurs, pushed the London club up to sixth, but their European aspirations still hang by a thread. Spurs made a surprise lineup with Emerson Royal starting and Yves Bissouma on the bench despite both being sidelined with injuries. Palace remained unchanged, having won four out of six fixtures under Roy Hodgson.

Despite both clubs being involved in high-scoring games last weekend, the first half was played at a subdued pace. However, Kane’s goal in the 45th minute changed the course of the game.

The second half saw a more intense and physical contest. Spurs had several chances to double their lead, but Sam Johnstone made a few important saves. Despite tempers boiling over towards the end of the game, Tottenham held on to end their four-match winless run and keep a first clean sheet since February 26.

Tottenham will face Aston Villa next, while Crystal Palace will take on Bournemouth.
