February 22, (THEWILL) – The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are set to take on the host nation Egypt in their second match of the Under-20 TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the Cairo International Stadium, on Wednesday.
Despite losing their opening game 1-0 to the Junior Teranga Lions of Senegal on Sunday, the team still has a chance to qualify for the quarter-final stage of the competition. However, they will have to do it without midfielder Daniel Daga, who sustained an injury during the game against Senegal.
Coach Isah Ladan Bosso will be hoping that his team can upset the host nation and get their campaign back on track. The Flying Eagles have won the U-20 AFCON a record seven times and will be looking to draw on that pedigree to secure victory.
The Young Pharaohs, on the other hand, have won the competition four times and are determined to pick up their first win in the 2023 edition after drawing their opening game against Mozambique. The match promises to be a tough encounter, with both teams fighting for the maximum points to keep their tournament alive.
Nigeria and Egypt last met in the semi-final stage of the U-20 AFCON, with the Egyptians coming out on top with a 2-0 victory. The kick-off time for the match is scheduled for 6pm Nigeria time.
