January 23, (THEWILL) – In a thrilling back-and-forth affair on Monday night, Karl-Anthony Towns put on an incredible scoring display with 62 points for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but it was not enough as his team came up just short in a 128-125 road loss against the Charlotte Hornets.
Towns was unstoppable for most of the contest, knocking down a blistering 10 three-pointers while shooting over 50% from the field. Still, a balanced Hornets attack led by Miles Bridges, who notched up 28 points, and Brandon Miller, who scored 27, had just enough firepower to withstand the Minnesota centre’s onslaught.
“KAT was amazing,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said after the loss. “He couldn’t have played much better on the offensive end. But we just didn’t get enough stops when it mattered late.”
Indeed, Charlotte executed better down the stretch despite Towns continuing his hot shooting. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for Minnesota and dropped them to 25-17 on the year, just behind Denver for first place in the Western Conference.
The Hornets, meanwhile, pulled off the big upset to improve to 16-28, fueled by one of their best performances of the season.
