Vehicle Hits Explosives

December 04, (THEWILL) – At least three people lost their lives, and eight others sustained injuries on Wednesday when a Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle exploded after running over an Improvised Explosive Device planted by suspected bandits along the Dansadau-Gusau Road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to local sources, the victims were immediately rushed to the Dansadau General Hospital for treatment.

A resident of Yar Tasha village, Abdullahi Dansadau, narrated the incident to reporters.

“It happened this morning.

A Golf 3 vehicle stepped on the bomb and exploded. We have six dead bodies here now, and eight others sustained injuries. The vehicle was completely destroyed,” he said.

The Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansar Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement.

“We acknowledge the reports of suspected bandits planting explosives along the Dansadau-Gusau Road, which unfortunately resulted in loss of lives and property. The safety and security of our citizens remain our top priority,” he said.

Abdullahi added that security agencies were working with local law enforcement to assess the situation and apprehend those responsible for the act.

The Dansadau-Gusau Road has become a hotspot for banditry and other criminal activities, raising concerns about the safety of travellers in the area. Residents have called for increased security measures to prevent further loss of lives and property.
