May 30, (THEWILL) – The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting in Abuja, has adjourned until Friday, June 2, hearing in the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) against the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A five-member panel of the Court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, ordered the adjournment to give the petitioner time to acquire a certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgement delivered on May 26, which laid to rest the controversies around the double nomination of Senator Kashim Shettima as the APC Vice Presidential candidate.
THEWILL recalls that the apex court, led by Justice Okoroh, on Friday, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the double nomination of Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The APM is challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu, over the double nomination of his Vice-President, Shettima.
At the hearing of the petition on Tuesday, Wole Olanipekun, lead counsel to Tinubu, told the Court that the petition doesn’t stand, as the Supreme Court had laid to rest the sole issue the APM prayed for in its petition.
However, counsel for the APM urged the court for an adjourned date, to be able to look into the certified true copy of the document and see how it affects their petition.
Other counsels in the matter did not oppose the advisory of Wole Olanipekun and the move for adjournment by the counsel for the APM.
