May 30, (THEWILL) – Chelsea is set to welcome Andy Cousins, a former Stoke City staff member, to their ranks in a senior recruitment and scouting position.
Cousins, who left Stoke in March, has been on gardening leave and is set to conclude his break tomorrow. Officially assuming his role in July, Cousins will join forces with newly-appointed Head Coach, Mauricio Pochettino, as they both embark on their tenure with the esteemed West London club.
Cousins’ responsibilities at Chelsea will extend beyond watching matches, scouting, and conducting research, as he will play a vital role in establishing a seamless line of communication between the recruitment team and Pochettino.
The scouting and recruitment structure at Chelsea has undergone a comprehensive transformation since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital takeover last year. With the arrival of Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart as co-sporting directors, alongside Christopher Vivell as technical director, the club’s set-up has been significantly revamped. In January, Joe Shields assumed the position of co-director of recruitment after departing Southampton.
Cousins, having served as a crucial member of the scouting and recruitment team during Michael O’Neill’s initial term as Northern Ireland manager, was brought to Stoke by the 53-year-old as a lead analyst. Cousins later ascended to the position of Head of Football Operations at Stoke.
On Tuesday, Chelsea also confirmed the appointment of Chris Jurasek as their new Chief Executive, adding to the series of changes within the club’s management structure.
