Troops Foil Bandits’ Attack, Recover Weapons In Taraba

October 10, (THEWILL) — Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully foiled an attack by bandits in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering weapons and motorcycles in the process.

The operation followed credible intelligence received on October 9, 2025, from locals around Majebiyu village, alerting troops deployed at Tapga Ngasawa village to an invasion by armed men suspected to be bandits.

According to the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt Mohammed Umar, the assailants were reportedly shooting sporadically, vandalising properties, and dispossessing residents of motorcycles and other valuables.

“Responding swiftly to the distress call, the troops mobilised to the location and made contact with the criminals. On sighting the advancing soldiers, the armed men fled into a nearby bush, likely with gunshot wounds sustained during the exchange.

“A subsequent search and clearance operation in the area led to the recovery of five (5) dane guns and two (2) motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing assailants”, the Spokesperson noted.Troops - bike -gun recover

Commending the troops for their professionalism and gallantry, the Commander, 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and mopping up illegal arms.

He assured residents of the Army’s continued efforts to maintain peace and security across Taraba State.

The Nigerian Army also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations in the region.Troops - gun recover
