July 17, (THEWILL) — Troops of Operation Safe Haven have rejected a N13.7 million bribe offered by two suspected terrorists during an operation in Plateau State, the Defence Headquarters said on Thursday.
Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this while briefing journalists on ongoing military operations across the country.
He said the suspects were arrested and a cache of weapons, cash, and a vehicle were recovered during the operation.
According to Kangye, the troops were responding to a distress call when they intercepted a vehicle riddled with bullet holes along the Jos–Sanga Road in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
“On July 9, 2025, our gallant troops intercepted a vehicle with bullet holes along Jos–Sanga Road. The suspects attempted to induce the troops with monetary gratification, which they rejected,” Kangye said.
He added that the suspects were immediately apprehended, and N13,742,000 was recovered alongside weapons, ammunition, and the vehicle.
The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation.
Kangye said that between July 9 and 16, troops conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Wase South, Riyom, and Jos East LGAs of Plateau State, as well as Kaura and Sanga LGAs of Kaduna State.
During these operations, troops killed several extremists, arrested 12 suspects, and rescued three kidnapped victims. Weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and motorcycles were also recovered.
In a related development, troops on routine patrol arrested seven suspected militias in Barkin Ladi and Jos South LGAs of Plateau, and in Wamba and Sanga LGAs of Nasarawa and Kaduna States respectively. Recovered items included weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and illicit drugs.
Kangye assured that all suspects and recovered items remain in military custody while investigations continue.
