March 29, (THEWILL) — Tottenham Hotspur have terminated the contract of head coach Igor Tudor, the club announced on Sunday, bringing a close to one of the shortest managerial reigns in the club’s recent history.
The Croatian oversaw seven matches during his 44-day stint, losing five and collecting just one English Premier League point.
His record left the north London club in grave danger of top-flight relegation.
A 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie offered a rare bright moment, but it was not enough to cancel out a 5-2 first-leg loss in Spain. Tottenham were eliminated from the competition on aggregate.
The defeat to Atletico offered little lasting comfort. A 3-0 loss to fellow relegation-threatened side Nottingham Forest last weekend proved to be Tudor’s final match in charge.
He was absent from post-match duties after learning that his father had died following the final whistle, a bereavement the club acknowledged formally in their official statement.
Goalkeeping coach Tomislav Rogic and physical coach Riccardo Ragnacci also departed with Tudor.
Spurs remain 17th in the League, separated from the relegation zone only by a single point ahead of West Ham United, with seven matches still to play.
