November 09, (THEWILL) – Fenerbahce manager, Jose Mourinho, faces discipline from the Turkish Football Federation following controversial remarks about match officials. The Portuguese coach received a one-match touchline suspension and a £15,000 fine after criticising the Video Assistant Referee during his team’s recent victory over Trabzonspor.
The Federation’s disciplinary committee imposed these sanctions in response to Mourinho’s post-match comments, which targeted VAR referee, Atilla Karaoglan. The punishment includes restrictions preventing Mourinho from entering the team’s dressing room during the duration of his ban.
The incident occurred after Fenerbahce’s dramatic 3-2 win at Papara Park, where Sofyan Amrabat scored the winning goal in the 12th minute of stoppage time. During his post-match press conference, Mourinho stated: “Today, the man of the match was Atilla Karaoglan. We did not see him, but he was the referee of the match. The referee was just a little boy who was there on the pitch, but the referee was Atilla Karaoglan.”
The match itself proved eventful, with Fred opening the scoring for Fenerbahce before Simon Banza netted twice for Trabzonspor. Edin Dzeko equalised for the visitors, setting up Amrabat’s late winner. Mourinho’s celebration included sliding on his knees following the decisive goal.
The 61-year-old manager further commented on the broader context of Turkish football, saying: “It is unbelievable to win this match against so many powerful people. We are not going to give up.
