October 14, (THEWILL) – On Friday, Nigeria defeated New Zealand 4-0 in the second Group B match of the 2022 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India with goals from Amina Bello, Miracle Usani, Taiwo Afolabi, and Edidiong Etim.
A powerful cross from Tumininu Adeshina in the 16th minute, allowed Bello to head Nigeria into the lead. When the New Zealand goalie missed Miracle Usani’s deceitfully lofted cross in the 34th minute, the score increased to 2-0.
In the 45th minute, Opeyemi Ajakaye made another one of her several excellent passes, this time creating the chance for Bisola Mosaku to score from close range but she missed with the sprawling and helpless keeper Aimee Feinberg-Danieli desperate to avoid conceding again.
The VAR was needed to intervene in determining whether there was an offside in the bulldup to Afolabi’s spectacular goal from 25 yards, but it was clear that there was none and the goal stood.
In the 90th minute, Etim found the net for Nigeria’s fourth goal with a strong long-range effort that found the top right corner of the net to cap a truly sensational team effort for coach Bankole Olowookere’s ladies.
