March 12, (THEWILL) – Harry Kane made history as Bayern Munich confirmed their place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
The English striker netted his 10th goal in the competition this season, becoming the first English player to reach double figures in a single edition of the European Cup or UCL.
Bayern dominated the match from the start, with Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman creating early opportunities.
The breakthrough came seven minutes after half-time when Kane capitalised on Patrik Schick’s failed clearance from a Joshua Kimmich free-kick. Alphonso Davies later converted Kane’s cross in the 71st minute to seal a 5-0 aggregate victory.
Leverkusen, missing star player Florian Wirtz due to an ankle ligament injury, struggled to create meaningful chances.
Their first shot on target did not come until the 65th minute. Bayern continued to pressure after taking the lead, with Kane hitting the crossbar and Jamal Musiala striking the post in the closing stages.
The victory sets up a quarter-final clash with Inter Milan, who advanced past Feyenoord on Tuesday.
Kane has now been directly involved in 24 goals in 23 UCL appearances for Bayern, recording 18 goals and six assists—the most of any player since the start of last season.
The England captain has further cemented his place in UCL history, becoming just the second Englishman to be involved in 50 or more goals in the competition.
His total of 39 goals and 11 assists puts him alongside David Beckham, who finished his career with 16 goals and 36 assists in the prestigious tournament.
