October 22, (THEWILL) — Victor Osimhen scored twice to lead Galatasaray to a 3-1 victory over Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League at RamsPark on Tuesday evening.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring after just three minutes and added a second in the 33rd minute to put the Turkish side in control.
Osimhen capitalised on a poor backpass from Fredrik André Bjørkan for his second goal, rounding goalkeeper Nikita Haikin before slotting into an empty net.
The visitors struggled to contain the intensity of the home attack, with Haikin forced into several saves to prevent further damage before the interval. Sondre Brunstad Fet struck the post for Bodo/Glimt before half-time, but the Norwegian side remained behind.
Yunus Akgun extended Galatasaray’s lead in the second half after Haitam Aleesami lost possession to Osimhen on the edge of the penalty area.
Andreas Helmersen pulled one back for the visitors in the 76th minute with a header from Bjørkan’s cross, but it proved insufficient to mount a comeback.
The result marked Galatasaray’s second consecutive European victory, having won just one of their previous 18 main-draw matches in continental competition.
It also represented the 21st win from their last 23 fixtures across all competitions and continued their recovery from a heavy opening-day defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the UCL league phase.
Bodo/Glimt’s five-game unbeaten run in European league phase matches came to an end, leaving Kjetil Knutsen’s side on two points.
The Norwegian club had shown periods of possession but failed to test Uğurcan Cakır regularly, while defensive errors ultimately cost them in Istanbul.
