BEVERLY HILLS, August 21, (THEWILL) – Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has expressed sadness at the death of Ben Charles Obi, founding editor of the Insider Weekly magazine, describing him as one of the crusaders for the current democratic experiment in Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Asaba by Felix Ofou, his Press Secretary, the Governor said Mr. Obi’s sacrifice as a journalist and activist during the military era would not be forgotten, noting that the country may have remained in the cesspool of dictatorial regimes if not for the courage, outspoken nature and challenge demonstrated by the likes of the deceased.

“The country shall not particularly forget sacrifices by Ben Charles Obi and other journalists who risked their lives to speak the truth, displayed exceptional courage and openly challenged the military junta seeking to perpetuate itself in office. They are some of the true defenders of Nigeria’s democracy,” he stated.
