September 28, (THEWILL) – The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has formally withdrawn the legal and disciplinary proceedings against Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid for their recalcitrance in the formation of the Super League.
In making this public, the European continental football governing body noted that they now consider the proceedings to be “null and void”. And, by withdrawing from any sanction against these last three clubs that refused to renege their participation in the Super League, UEFA will hold from asking fines from other clubs who bailed out.
These other nine clubs include English Premier League sides Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur; Serie A’s Milan sides Inter and AC Milan and La Liga’s Atletico Madrid. They will no longer have to pay any fines.
In May, the nine teams agreed to pay a combined fine of €15 million, plus to have five percent of their UEFA revenue withheld for a season.
Part of the UEFA statement read: “Following stay of proceedings against Barça, Juventus and Real Madrid, in the matter related to violation of UEFA’s legal framework with Super League, UEFA Appeals Body declared today the proceedings NULL & void, as if the proceedings had never been opened”.
