December 16, (THEWILL) – Football players participating in the Women’s Euro 2025 will receive a percentage of the prize money for the first time, UEFA announced on Monday.
The European football governing body’s Executive Committee approved a total prize pot of €41 million for the tournament in Switzerland, marking a significant 156% increase from the 2022 event.
National associations will distribute between 30 and 40% of the tournament rewards directly to players. Compensation payments to European clubs releasing players for the tournament will increase to €6 million.
All 16 competing teams will receive €1.8 million for qualifying, which represents 70% of the total prize money.
The remaining 30% of the prize money will be allocated through performance bonuses, including rewards for wins in both group and knockout stages.
Tournament winners could potentially earn up to €5.1 million if they win all their group-stage matches and ultimately claim the championship.
This substantial increase in prize money follows the groundbreaking approach at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where players received a percentage of the prize money for the first time.
UEFA has committed €1 billion to women’s football development over the next six years, demonstrating a clear strategy to support and grow the women’s game across Europe.
