May 31, (THEWILL) – Newly promoted Ukrainian Premier League side, FC Polissya Zhytomyr, has made an exciting acquisition, securing the services of talented goalkeeper, Chijoke Aniagboso, from the Flying Eagles.
The 19-year-old shot-stopper has reportedly inked a five-year contract, binding him to Polissya Zhytomyr until the conclusion of the 2027/2028 season. This announcement comes hot on the heels of Polissya Zhytomyr’s triumph in the Persha Liha, where they clinched the title with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over LNZ Cherkasy.
Aniagboso’s impressive performances at the 2023 Under-20 African Cup of Nations were part of the reasons the Ukrainian club brought him in. The young goalkeeper, who won a bronze medal at the tournament, appeared in six matches and is currently representing Nigeria at the ongoing U20 World Cup. The highly-rated shot-stopper will join Polissya Zhytomyr for the 2023/2024 pre-season preparations.
He has been a standout player for the Flying Eagles at the World Cup, with a clean sheet in their 2-0 victory over Italy and conceding only three goals so far. At the U20 AFCON, where he impressively kept four clean sheets in five matches, Aniagboso’s stellar performances and obvious talent earned him a surprise call-up to the Super Eagles’ 23-man squad for Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON qualifying double-header against Guinea-Bissau, in March, although he did not make an appearance in either game.
Polissya Zhytomyr, a team comprised solely of Ukrainian players, has been actively scouting at the U20 World Cup in Argentina. They recently announced the signing of Gambia U20 defender, Moses Jarjue, who is set to join the club on July 1, after agreeing to a pre-contract.
