SAN FRANCISCO, January 20, (THEWILL) – The Presidency on Thursday night dismissed insinuations that the President-elect of the United States, US, Mr. Donald Trump, snubbed President Muhammadu Buhari by refusing to invite him for his inauguration on Friday but invited former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a message on Twitter, clarified that the United States does not invite world leaders to the inauguration of its presidents, hence his principal could not have been snubbed.
“Gentlemen, I think we should respond to refute this falsehood. The US does not invite Heads of State or President to the inauguration of its Presidents. Our President could therefore not have been snubbed,” he tweeted.
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State had earlier stated that the non-extension of invitation to Buhari to attend the inauguration of Trump as America’s 45th president is a clear indication that the Nigerian president no longer enjoys international relevance.
The Governor, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said “there is no doubt that Buhari is not in the good books of the incoming US government,” arguing that Buhari’s frequent visit and romance with the US under Obama was due to the tacit support given to Buhari by Obama to win the 2015 election with deception.
