Vera-Yohanna Wins Lagos Women Run In 29 Minutes

November 12, (THEWILL) – The 2022 edition of the Lagos Women Run has a new champion: Maisaje Vera-Yohanna from Plateau State.

She won the seventh iteration of the Lagos Women Run, which was held on Saturday, November 12, after finishing the 10 km race in a time of 29.38.72. Haruna Hauwawu of Lagos State came in second place, also breaking the 30-minute barrier with a time of 29.27.59, and Charity Agofure of Delta State followed in third with a time of 30.13.17.

Vera-Yohanna’s winning time at the Lagos Women Run is the fastest time ever recorded by a Nigerian, even if it is less than the course record of 28:55 seconds set in 2019 by Kenyan Cheptoeck Careen.

While Plateau, Lagos, and Delta State each had a representative in the top three spots in the Open Category, the Plateau State trio of Elizabeth Nuhu, Steven Kundung, and Janet Dung won all three spots in the Veteran Category.

Vera-Yohanna, Hauwawu, and Agofure received N1 million, N500,000, and N300,000 naira, respectively, for their performance in the Open Category. The top three finishers in the Veteran category each received N300,000, N200,000, and N100,000 respectively.
