August 17, (THEWILL) — The African Democratic Congress in Ogun State has debunked claims that its National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, was stoned during the party’s by-election campaign in Remo.
The denial followed a viral video that circulated online suggesting that the former Minister of Interior was attacked while addressing supporters.
In a statement on Friday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olumide Onabajo, described the video as misleading and mischievously circulated to discredit the party.
“The said video being circulated is not only fake but mischievously lifted from the period of the #EndSARS protests in Osun State, a time when Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was no longer even governor.
“The intention is clear: to misinform the public and discredit the growing popularity of the ADC ahead of 2027,” the statement read.
Onabajo alleged that the only challenge the party faced during Thursday’s campaign was the action of security operatives who, according to him, disrupted their rally.
“Our canopies were destroyed, our chairs broken, our instruments seized, and our leaders, including our National Secretary, our Southwest Chairman, and our State Chairman, were blocked from getting to the campaign arena,” he said.
He insisted that the ADC remained the credible alternative in Ogun politics, saying no amount of propaganda or intimidation would stop its growth.
“We call on the public to disregard the false viral video and remain steadfast. The ADC remains committed to peaceful, issue-based campaigns and the liberation of our people from failed leadership,” Onabajo added.
