April 24, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has dismissed reports alleging that it is selling refinery equipment, components, or scrap materials, warning members of the public to beware of fraudsters exploiting such claims.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the company, Andy Odeh, described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that NNPC Ltd. has not authorised any sale of assets from its refineries or facilities.
“The Company wishes to categorically state that this information is untrue. NNPC Limited has not issued any request for bids, tenders, expressions of interest, or approvals for the sale of scrap materials, refinery components, or any items from the warehouses or inventories of any of its refineries”, Odeh said.
He revealed that the company had received reports of individuals falsely presenting themselves as representatives or agents of NNPC Ltd., claiming to facilitate the sale of so-called scrap metals and refinery equipment.
“These individuals are not authorised by NNPC Limited and are attempting to mislead members of the public”, he said.
Odeh urged the public, corporate organisations, and industry stakeholders to disregard such claims and exercise caution when approached with offers relating to the sale of NNPC assets.
“For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC Limited is not conducting, nor has it authorised, any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities”, he reiterated.
He further assured that any legitimate disposal of assets by the company would be conducted through established and transparent processes, which would be publicly communicated through official channels and in line with applicable regulations.
The NNPC spokesman also encouraged anyone who encounters individuals or entities making such fraudulent claims to report them to appropriate law enforcement authorities.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of Nigeria’s strategic energy assets.
