March 18, (THEWILL) – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocated for the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja over the party’s failure to pay ground rent for two decades.
THEWILL reports that the PDP property, located at Plot No. 243, Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja, is among 4,794 land titles revoked by the FCT Administration due to alleged non-payment of statutory fees.
Ground rent is a mandatory annual fee paid by landowners to retain their land rights in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a letter signed by the FCTA Director of Lands, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, and addressed to PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagun, the revocation was attributed to the party’s persistent failure to meet its financial obligations.
The letter stated, “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has, in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 243.”
It further cited the PDP’s alleged violation of the terms of its Right of Occupancy by failing to pay the required fees from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025, despite repeated warnings published in national dailies and electronic media.
The FCT Administration has now taken possession of the land, in line with Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.
