May 23, (THEWILL) – Tiger Woods has announced his absence from the upcoming US Open, as he continues to recuperate from a recent surgical procedure, according to the tournament’s organisers on Monday.

During the 2023 Masters, the legendary golfer with 15 major titles to his name, was forced to withdraw from the competition due to an injury, which subsequently led to fusion surgery on his ankle. The operation aimed to address post-traumatic arthritis resulting from a previous talus bone fracture.

Woods’ recovery process necessitated his withdrawal from the PGA Championship, the second major tournament of the year, held earlier this month. Following a devastating car crash in 2021 that required the rebuilding of his leg, the 47-year-old golfer has significantly scaled back his participation in tournaments.

As he continues to focus on his rehabilitation, Woods has chosen not to compete in the US Open, which is scheduled to take place from June 15 to 18 at the Los Angeles Country Club in California.
