April 09, (THEWILL) – Tiger Woods has withdrawn from The Masters due to a recurring injury ahead of the resumption of the third round at Augusta National.
Although Woods secured a record-equalling 23rd consecutive cut at The Masters, he fell behind after a poor start to the third round and looked to be in physical pain. With 11 holes left to finish, he would likely have been one of the first players out for the final round, where players will tee off in pairs in a two-tee start.
“I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis,” Woods said on Twitter. “Thank you to the fans and to The Masters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!”
The 47-year-old has only played 72 holes twice since a car crash in February 2021 that led to career-threatening leg injuries. Woods, who was making just his second start of the year, closed the second round with a 74 despite the cold and wet conditions.
He will not return for the extended Sunday session to finish the third round, which was disrupted due to bad weather on Saturday. That third round was set to resume at 1:30 pm local time.
