August 25, (THEWILL) – WWE superstar, Windham Rotunda, known in the ring as Bray Wyatt, died unexpectedly on Thursday, at the age of 36, the wrestling entertainment company announced.
Rotunda, son of WWE Hall of Famer IRS and grandson of Blackjack Mulligan, had wrestling in his blood from a young age. After playing college football at Troy University, he began his pro wrestling career in WWE’s developmental system in 2009. Rotunda made his main roster debut in 2010 under the name Husky Harris before being repackaged as the sinister Bray Wyatt character that catapulted him to fame among fans.
As Bray Wyatt, Rotunda became known for his gripping promos and character work. He engaged in high-profile feuds and matches against the likes of John Cena and The Undertaker at WrestleMania, WWE’s biggest event of the year. Overall, Wyatt captured three world championship titles with WWE and consistently remained in the main event picture.
Rotunda was released by WWE in 2021 but later returned to the company in 2022. His final televised match was a win against LA Knight at January’s Royal Rumble premium live event. Outside of the ring, Rotunda was a devoted father to his four children.
The sudden passing of the popular 36-year-old performer shocked the wrestling world and prompted an outpouring of condolences from fans and fellow wrestlers. Wyatt had been a mainstay with WWE for over a decade, entertaining audiences with his unique persona and in-ring storytelling.
