January 31, (THEWILL) – COAS Spikers of Zaria, Olalomi Royal of Kwara State and Refiners Volleyball Club of Onitsha showed tenacity and strong will on day three of the ongoing Yenagoa Invitational Volleyball Challenge, 2024 in Bayelsa State.

The Yenagoa Invitational Volleyball Challenge has 51 teams across the country with 25 male and 26 female teams jostling for the prize money at two venues, the Peace Park and the Samson Siasia Stadium.

The first match decided at the Peace Park saw Yelwa Volleyball Club beat Edo Storm 2-0 (25-18, 25-16), Heartland of Owerri lose 1-2 to City Gate (22-25, 25-21, 7-15), Arise Spikers spanked Mabisel 2-1 (25-18, 22-25, 15-12) while Trailblazers Volleyball Club loss 1-2 (25-19, 25-27, 9-15) to Paradise Volleyball Club.

Victory Volleyball Club beat S&T Volleyball Club in two sets (0-25, 0-25, Kwara State-based Olalomi Royal were hot for Yelwa Volleyball Club with a 2-0 victory (25-16, 26-24), Onitisha-based Refiners blew cool as they lose 0-2 (25-11, 27-25) to COAS Spikers, and Scorpion Spikers came back from a set down to beat Benue Academy 2-1 (25-15, 20-25, 15-13).

Edison Volleyball Club of Akwa Ibom State proved too strong for Python Spikers as they took Python Spikers to the sword in both sets (25-19, 25-22), same scoreline as G-Ranks, who defeated Rockstar Volleyball Club 2-0 (15-25, 17-25), while Trailblazers returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Edo Storm (25-21,12-25, 13-15), and Refiners responded to the defeat by COAS Spikers to beat Benue Academy Volleyball Club 2-0 (25-21, 25-20).

In the Women’s category, Calabar-based Canaan Volleyball Club took Trailblazers to the cleaners with a 2-0 (25-19, 25-14) victory. Trailblazers, in the second game, responded in an exhilarating fashion, defeating Edo Storm 2-0 (25-16, 25-19), while COAS Spikers beat Refiners 2-1 (25-22, 20-25, 15-10), and Scorpion Spikers displayed brilliance with a 2-0 (25-17, 25-14) win over Benue Academy).

Elsewhere in the women’s event, Arise Spikers triumphed over Mabisel, beating their opponent 2-0 (25-21, 25-19) while the encounter between G-Ranks Spikers and Rockstar Volleyball Club ended 2-0 (25-17, 25-16) in favour of G-Ranks.

While Edison of Akwa Ibom beat Python Spikers 2-0 (30-28, 25-17), Solid Spikers were not solid enough as they fell to Greatest Spikers 1-2 (25-22, 12-25, 9-15), Rockstar defeated City Gate 2-1 (25-19, 19-25, 15-9) and Defence Spikers failed to defend as they loss (1-2 25-19, 13-25, 12-15) to Tabara.

Action will resume on Thursday, day four of the ongoing Yenagoa Invitational Volleyball Challenge, with 36 matches coming up at both venues of the competition.
