SAN FRANCISCO, December 03, (THEWILL) – Following the improvement of the security situation in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, the state government has reviewed the 24-hour curfew imposed on the town and its environs .

The government had on Monday imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state capital following the Boko Haram deadly siege on the town earlier in the day.

But a statement issued Tuesday night by the  Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information, Abdullahi Bego, said the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, had approved a review of the period of the curfew.

“This is to inform members of the general public that following discussions with heads of law enforcement agencies in the State in which the ongoing security efforts within Damaturu metropolis were reviewed, His Excellency Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has approved a review of the 24-hour curfew imposed earlier in the town today.

“As from Wednesday 3rd December 2014, the curfew will start from 6pm to 7am daily. Members of the general public can therefore move freely between the hours of 7am and 6pm  as the curfew will start from 6pm  daily.

“Going forward, the curfew hours will be reviewed further on the basis of recommendations from the heads of law enforcement agencies in the State. Members of the general public are kindly advised to comply with the new curfew hours.

“His Excellency the governor also urges members of the public to continue to extend their support to and cooperation with security agents in their effort to ensure peace and security in the State,” the statement said.
