
March 22, (THEWILL) – The Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has commended the Super Eagles for their impressive performance in Kigali, where they secured a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
President of YSFON, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna, described the win as a morale booster for Nigerians, expressing optimism about the team’s chances of securing a World Cup ticket.
In a statement issued after the match and signed by YSFON’s Federal Capital Territory Chairman, Johnson Akinsehinwa, Gawuna praised the players and technical crew for their team spirit and urged them to maintain the momentum in subsequent fixtures.
The former Deputy Governor of Kano State highlighted the role of sports in national unity, reaffirming YSFON’s commitment to youth engagement through sporting activities.
“Nigeria has an abundance of raw talent waiting to be harnessed. Sports remain a powerful tool for national development, and we at YSFON are committed to making it a focal point,” he stated.
Gawuna further called on governments at all levels to prioritize sports development, emphasizing that strategic investment in the sector would yield long-term benefits for the nation.
