February 22, (THEWILL) – Zambia’s Under-20 team staged a dramatic comeback to earn a 1-1 draw against Benin in their TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations encounter on Tuesday night.
The Chipolopolo side fell behind to a clever goal from Benin’s Rodolfo Aloko, early in the second half. Aloko turned his marker in the area and slotted home to give the Cheetahs a deserved lead.
Benin dominated the match with their attacking football, which caused Zambia all sorts of problems at the back. However, Chisi Mbewe’s team found their footing and began to improve after going down. They equalised through substitute Rickson Ng’ambi, who scored on the hour mark to rescue a point for his side.
Derrick Bulaya was instrumental in setting up Ng’ambi’s goal. Bulaya closed down Benin keeper, Dava Agossa, forcing him to miscue his clearance. Bulaya then regained possession and set up Ng’ambi, who drew his side level.
The Zambians came close to taking the lead late on through Kingston, but they were ultimately forced to settle for a draw.
