June 25 (THEWILL) — Zenith Bank Plc has strengthened its presence in Delta State with the commissioning of a new branch in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area, becoming the first commercial bank to establish operations in the community and extending access to banking services to residents and businesses in the area.
The new branch, officially opened on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, underscores the bank’s commitment to deepening financial inclusion and supporting economic growth by bringing modern banking services closer to underserved communities.
The commissioning ceremony attracted a high-profile gathering, including Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, senior government officials, traditional rulers, members of the business community, customers, and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Governor Oborevwori described the opening of the branch as a strong endorsement of Delta State’s economic prospects and the success of the administration’s efforts to create an investor-friendly environment.
“This is a clear vote of confidence in the economic potential of our state. It shows that the investments we have made in infrastructure, economic development, and ease of doing business are producing tangible results.
When a leading financial institution such as Zenith Bank expands its presence in Delta State, it sends a powerful message that Delta State is open for business and ready for greater investment,” the governor said.
He stressed the significance of the development for residents of Okpe Local Government Area, noting that the branch fills a critical gap in access to banking services.
“This branch is the only bank in the whole of Okpe Local Government as it is today. The significance of this bank to our people cannot be overemphasised because of the impact it will have on the economy of this local government,” he added.
In her address, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, expressed appreciation to the governor for his support towards private sector growth and for creating an enabling environment that encourages investment in the state.
She particularly acknowledged Governor Oborevwori’s contribution to the establishment of the branch, describing it as evidence of the administration’s commitment to economic development.
“We are deeply grateful to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, for his unwavering support and partnership, and for finding time to personally commission the branch today.
“His generous donation of the land on which this branch is built is a testament to his administration’s commitment to fostering private sector investment and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive,” Umeoji said.
She noted that the governor’s administration had recorded significant achievements in infrastructure and socio-economic development since assuming office and said Zenith Bank was proud to contribute to the state’s progress through the new facility.
According to the bank’s chief executive, the Osubi branch represents the 19th Zenith Bank branch in Delta State and marks another milestone in the institution’s long-standing relationship with the state.
She reiterated the bank’s commitment to expanding access to financial services, particularly in underserved communities, while empowering individuals, entrepreneurs, women-led businesses, and SMEs through innovative banking products, financing opportunities, and capacity-building programmes.
Umeoji further stated that the new branch would catalyze economic activity in Osubi and neighbouring communities by improving access to financial services and supporting local enterprises.
She expressed confidence that the branch would contribute meaningfully to the broader socio-economic development of Delta State and Nigeria, while reinforcing Zenith Bank’s position as a key partner in the country’s economic transformation.
