March 31, (THEWILL) — Borno State governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council as part of efforts to reposition the state’s political and administrative structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, who disclosed that the move is aimed at ensuring a level playing field for cabinet members interested in contesting elective positions in the forthcoming polls, in line with electoral guidelines and democratic best practices.
Following the directive, all Commissioners have been instructed to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.
The arrangement, according to the government, is to guarantee continuity in governance and prevent any disruption in administrative operations across the state.
The dissolution of the cabinet marks a significant political development in Borno State, coming at a time when political activities are gradually gaining momentum ahead of the next general elections. Several members of the outgoing Executive Council are reportedly expected to pursue various elective offices.
