October 15, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has applauded the Super Eagles following their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, assuring the team of his administration’s continued support as they push toward qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the win has rekindled national pride and renewed belief in Nigeria’s place on the global football stage.
He noted that the team’s performance reflected hunger, discipline, and passion — qualities that Nigerians hold dear.
“The Super Eagles have shown that with determination and unity, Nigeria can achieve greatness.

He urged the players and coaching crew to “keep the hope alive” and maintain their momentum through the remaining qualifying matches ahead of the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The President described Sunday’s victory at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo as “superlative,” adding that it has lifted the national mood and restored confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to reclaim their glory on the world stage.
