April 20, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Dr Aniekan Umanah, has called on youth leaders in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State to consolidate support for key political figures ahead of the 2027 elections, framing ongoing infrastructure and social programmes as evidence of responsive governance.
Speaking during a meeting with National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) leaders and 91 village youth presidents at the weekend, Umanah urged unity, peaceful conduct, and the protection of public assets, while positioning grassroots engagement as central to the state’s development agenda.
He cited multiple road projects, including Ikot Ekang, Ediene, Etinan, Manta, and Hospital Roads, as indicators of the administration’s commitment under Governor Umo Eno to improving infrastructure and local livelihoods.
The commissioner also highlighted social intervention efforts such as the Compassionate Homes Initiative and various empowerment programmes, noting that additional opportunities, particularly targeting women, are in the pipeline.
In a politically charged appeal, Umanah encouraged the youth leaders to remain aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Eno, including support for their anticipated re-election bids in 2027 and participation in forthcoming party primaries.
He noted that engagement underscores growing efforts by political actors to mobilise grassroots structures as early positioning for the next election cycle intensifies.
