October 08, (THEWILL) – Tammy Abraham has not completely ruled out going back to his old team Chelsea, even as he has become the linchpin of the Roma attack line.
The 25-year-old left Stamford Bridge in 2021, after Thomas Tuchel caused him to lose his starting position, and he had a great first season in Rome, scoring 27 goals and dishing out six assists in 53 games in all competitions. He even helped Jose Mourinho add the Europa Conference League title to his enviable collection.
Chelsea is thought to have negotiated a buy-back clause with Roma in the £34 million transaction that sent Abraham to Roma that is estimated to be worth roughly €80 million (£70.3 million).
When asked if he would be interested in returning to Chelsea if the clause was activated, Abraham responded: “My focus is to do exactly what I did last year here. I’m happy here, the team is good, the manager’s good, the city, the fans… I’m happy. But you never know the future. Only God knows the future.”
With just two goals in his first 10 games of the season, Abraham is still adjusting to life at Roma this season after manager, Jose Mourinho, changed up his attacking setup to include new acquisition, Paulo Dybala. It is unclear whether Chelsea would exercise their buy-back clause, but it is evident that the Blues want to restructure their attack in the upcoming months under Graham Potter.
