May 22, (THEWILL) – The Miami Heat defeated the Boston Celtics 109-103 on the road on Saturday, taking a crucial 2-1 lead in their Eastern Conference finals series with Bam Adebayo delivering a heroic performance and scoring 31 points.

After Miami’s talisman Jimmy Butler was pulled out of the game at halftime due to injury, Adebayo stepped up with an outstanding all-around display to hold off a fiery Boston comeback at TD Garden.

Adebayo, who had only averaged eight points per game in the first two games of the best-of-seven series, added 10 rebounds, six assists, and four steals to his 31 points.

That helped Miami finish a dramatic game in which the Celtics clawed their way back from a 26-point first-half deficit to within one point with under three minutes to play. Boston was left assessing the cost of 23 turnovers after routing the Heat to even the series in Miami on Thursday.

With 40 points, Boston’s Jaylen Brown had a fantastic game, but Miami’s P.J. Tucker expertly caged up Celtics star Jayson Tatum, depriving the home club of a key offensive weapon.

On Monday, the series continues in Boston with Game 4.
