March 28, (THEWILL) – Namibia caused a major upset in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, defeating Cameroon 2-1 in a dramatic match at the Dobsonville Stadium.
The victory saw Namibia leapfrog Cameroon and move to the top of Group C. To get that result, Namibia came out of the gates firing and put pressure on Cameroon’s backline early on. Although Cameroon eventually gained control of the match, they failed to convert their chances in the first half.
In the second half, Namibia’s persistence paid off, as they scored two goals to take a commanding lead. Peter Shalulile scored the first goal of the match, displaying his impeccable finishing skills. Absalom Limbondi then doubled Namibia’s lead with a free-kick that found the back of the net.
Although Vincent Aboubakar scored a late goal for Cameroon, it was too little, too late to prevent Namibia from recording a historic win and taking the top spot in the group ahead of the final pair of qualifying matches in the next international break.
