December 27, (THEWILL) – Andrea Agnelli, who recently resigned as president of Juventus, acknowledged at the club’s annual shareholder meeting that it was “not an easy decision” for him to resign.
As THEWILL reported, the decision followed allegations that the club had falsified its financial records when Agnelli was president. Along with Agnelli, other senior executives including the vice president, CEO, and the entire board of directors also resigned. Gianluca Ferrero was appointed as the new president to take Agnelli’s place.
During the shareholder meeting at the Allianz Stadium, Agnelli explained that his departure from the presidency was difficult for him to make due to his love for Juventus and the efforts he had put into achieving the club’s recent successes both on and off the field.
He said: “I took this decision in full serenity, I remain firmly convinced of the good work of all these years, an opinion confirmed also in recent weeks by the analysis of numerous experts: Juventus will demonstrate its legitimacy in every avenue.
“I thought it appropriate to take a step back, to avoid that one could even think that the choices and decisions that will be made from now on were conditioned by my personal involvement. It was an honour to be President of Juventus, which comes before everything and everyone. Fino Alla Fine.”
