March 29, (THEWILL) – Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has a hamstring issue, is a doubt for Liverpool’s probable Premier League title decider against rivals Manchester City.
Alexander-Arnold suffered the injury in the English Premier League’s 2-0 win over Arsenal prior to the international break, and the injury has already forced him to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s team for country duty.
The right-back is set to also miss Liverpool’s games against Watford and Benfica in early April, though it is anticipated that he will be able to return for the match against City at the Etihad.
However, Alexander-Arnold is reported to be in a “race against time” to be eligible to play Pep Guardiola’s side, who now lead the Premier League table by just a point, thanks to Liverpool’s brilliant recent record and title chase.
Alexander-Arnold has previously returned to action ahead of schedule, giving hope that the 23-year-old will be well enough to have returned to training and be fit enough play at the very least.
If he is unable to play, Joe Gomez is set to start at right-back, having previously deputised in the role during the FA Cup quarter-final triumph over Nottingham Forest.
If Alexander-Arnold is ruled out, Liverpool will be missing a player who leads the Premier League in assists with 11 so far, which is one more than teammates Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah.
