March 18, (THEWILL) – Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Liverpool’s FA Cup quarter-final match against Nottingham Forest, as well as England’s next friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.
As THEWILL reported, the 23-year-old was chosen as one of two right-backs in Gareth Southgate’s squad on Thursday afternoon, alongside Reece James, but will not go with the Three Lions after Jurgen Klopp confirmed he has a hamstring issue in his recent press conference.
Klopp said: “Trent is out with a hamstring [injury] so he will not be part of England as well. Not good news, we will see how long that takes.”
Mohamed Salah is also suffering from a foot ailment, according to the German, but he did not rule the Egyptian out of the match on Sunday evening.
The injury to Alexander-Arnold is a big setback for a Liverpool side that has been in superb form recently, both domestically and in Europe.
They have won nine games in a row in the Premier League to trim the gap on leaders Manchester City to just a point, and they are also in the running for a Champions League quarter-final draw after defeating Serie A champions Inter in the last 16.
Alexander-Arnold has played a key role in Liverpool’s success recently, as he has done in the previous two seasons. In 26 games, he has 11 Premier League assists, one more than colleagues Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, and he has also scored two goals.
He is been equally impressive in the Champions League, and his success has earned him a recall to England’s squad after missing Euro 2020 due to injury last summer. But injury is sidelining him again now.
