June 04, (THEWILL) – The Management of Benue Links Nigeria Limited has described as fake news claims in the social media space that one of its company vehicles was hijacked and its passengers kidnapped in Owukpa, Ogbadibo local Government area of Benue State.
Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard such misleading information as no Benue Links vehicle has been attacked or involved in any incident of passenger kidnapping, whether in Owukpa, Benue State, or anywhere else in the country in recent times.
“The vehicle shown in the circulated image (PP 471) has not been in operation for the past four weeks as it is currently undergoing a complete engine overhaul, as evidenced by attached photos and video documentation.”
In a statement in Makurdi on Wednesday, the Company’s Information Officer, Johnson Ehi Daniel, warned the originators and distributors of this false news that the spread of unverified and malicious content is a criminal offence under the Cybercrimes Act, as well as relevant provisions of the Criminal and Penal Codes.
The statement warned that Benue Links Nigeria Limited will not hesitate to exercise its right to seek legal redress against individuals or groups who intentionally attempt to damage the company’s reputation.
“We remain committed to providing our esteemed passengers with safe, comfortable, reliable, and affordable transport services at subsidised rates, as has always been our hallmark”, it added.
Mr Daniel appreciated the support of the public and urged everyone to rely on verified channels for authentic information regarding the company’s operations.
