July 23, (THEWILL) – Paul Pogba might be the “icon” of Juventus’ revamped squad going into the 2022–23 campaign, according to manager, Massimiliano Allegri.
After four initial trophy-filled seasons in Turin, Pogba, who returned to Manchester Utd, was re-signed by Juve as a free agent this summer. He was given the illustrious number 10 jersey, which Paulo Dybala had been wearing before his contract with the team expired. He helped La Vecchia Signora to a convincing 2-0 victory over C.D. Guadalajara in Las Vegas on the weekend, in his second Juve debut.
After the win, Allegri gave his evaluation on Pogba’s and the team’s performance, saying: “It was a good test. At times, we played with good rhythm, the team worked hard in Turin these days and you could see that. Pogba played well, there were a few elements he needs to work on, but he will be an icon of this team.”
The 2021/2022 season at Old Trafford was challenging for the talented midfielder and World Cup champion from France, who missed 19 games as a result of injury. The Red Devils finished a disappointing sixth in the Premier League for what was their worst turn in the League competition.
“I am very happy to be back home – because that is how I feel here, at home,” Pogba stated in his ceremonial unveiling, even revealing that he had maintained touch with Allegri during his time in the Premier League. “I am extremely delighted,” he added.
